Hunting in Namibia

As with most countries hunting nambia has changed over time. With the advent of modern wildlife conservation measures most countries have now put restrictions on hunting and hunting practices. These include prohibition of hunting in protected areas, closed seasons and the requirement for hunters to obtain a permit that stipulates how many of a particular species they can take over a set period of time.

Discover the Wild: Hunting Namibia's Vast Terrain

Namibia is a beautiful country with huge areas of semi-desert savanna and dense thorny bushland and is renowned for its abundant big game. In addition to the well-known animals such as zebra, springbok and oryx Namibia also has a number of endemic species including Damara Dik-Dik, Black-Faced Impala, and Steenbuck. Most of Namibia’s hunting is done on privately owned game ranches that are not only large but also run in an environmentally responsible manner. These are becoming increasingly popular with big game hunters and offer a diverse range of trophy animals from all the major sub-species. The hunting season in namibia runs from February 1st to November 30th each year. The only exceptions are the months of December and January when hunting is prohibited to give the animal population a rest. Most of the game is found in the northern part of the country and it is also possible to hunt on the Caprivi Strip which extends east into Botswana. Most hunters will fly to Windhoek and then be driven by their PH to the hunt area.
